Voices Beyond The Slide
Giving voice to the lives behind the diagnosis.
Voices Beyond the Slide is a pioneering initiative by Patho_Scope, created to amplify real patient stories, especially those affected by rare diseases, cancers, and hereditary conditions. In a field where we often focus on cells and stains, this campaign brings attention to the people behind the pathology.
-
Our goal is to bridge the gap between science and lived experience, fostering education, empathy, and awareness.
Our Mission
- To educate medical students, early-career professionals, and the wider community about real-world impacts of rare and complex diseases.
- To inspire deeper understanding of pathology’s human context.
- To raise awareness of conditions that are often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or overlooked.
This campaign is rooted in the belief that pathology is not just about what we see under the microscope. It’s also about what we listen for beyond it.
Why This Campaign Matters!
Rare diseases, hereditary conditions and cancers are critically under-discussed but deeply affect patients and families worldwide. By bringing these stories forward, Voices Beyond the Slide aims to:
- Illuminate lesser-known diseases and diagnostic journeys
- Ignite open dialogue, increase advocacy, and inspire early detection and intervention through real-life journeys.
- Connect pathology with real-life impact
- Empower those affected by rare and hereditary conditions to be seen and heard

Featured Voice: Meet Dan Shockley
Meet the inspiring voice behind our first story in the “Voices Beyond the Slide” campaign : Dan Shockley, a retired U.S. Navy veteran and a 13-year warrior living with Attenuated Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (AFAP).
His journey, shaped by resilience and guided by the late Dr. Henry T. Lynch, the pioneer of hereditary cancer research. reminds us how one diagnosis can spark a mission to educate and empower others.
